The Regime of Truth

According to the artist, “The iconoclastic act — the destruction of art — is the art itself, and this perversity is protected under glass as a historic event.” Ink drawings of ghosts animate the interstices between the fractal shapes. According to the artist, “I see the shapes as symbolizing a meaning that has yet to be decoded.” Perhaps they are icons of a new religion that could logically form around the science of signs. These letters in an unknown alphabet are emblems of the unpronounced. Under Polivka’s “regime of truth,” (Foucault’s phrase) the analysis of language — the coding and decoding of all meanings — would be the new catechism. The shapes are indicative of a higher cognitive force, fragments of a larger puzzle.
